Celebration of Ray Frushay (04/22/2018)

Songwriters Across Texas and Giddy Ups hosted and filmed a celebration of all things Ray Frushay.  What a beautiful Sunday afternoon!  It wasn’t the weather that was beautiful, it only enhanced the music, friendship, and love spread all around Giddy Ups that day.

Oh, you don’t know who Ray is?  Well, that happens a lot with songwriters.  While Ray was a prolific songwriter in the 60s and 70s, he was also in demand as a performer.   He either opened for or did concerts with people like Johnny Cash, Mel Tillis, George Jones, Dolly Parton, Marty Robbins, Statler Bros. Roger Miller, Doug Kershaw, Jim Reeves, Porter Wagner, June Carter…..and the list goes on and on.  But, it wasn’t only country stars!  There’s that blues and rockin’ side, too, with the likes of BB King, Little Richard, and Ike/Tina Turner.  Like we said…the list goes on and on.  🙂

There were so many talented performers including Glen Collins, Neal Ford, Frank Iarossi, Carl Hutchens, Steve Griggs, and Armadillo Road.  And, the songs Ray, Barbara, and Ray’s daughter Sheri did were magic to see the family on stage together.  The band and sound crew did a fantastic job!!  Thanks to Melody Zapata (drums), Josh Jarrett (lead), Tee Jay Hill (bass), with Robert Brady (sound) and Jeremy Nelson (videography).

Songwriters Across Texas Supper Club (04/05/2018)

Songwriters Across Texas and Hill’s Cafe have been hosting the Supper Club for almost a year now and it’s always a fun thing to do.  But, it’s also a lot of work…especially for Hill’s manager and staff!  So, for April, the honoree was Hill’s Cafe manager, Marianna Marchesini…with a special thanks to all of her staff.  While it was supposed to be a surprise, someone told, but it was still special!  And the music by two of our favorites, Leeann Atherton and Jim Stringer, just made it even more fun.  😊

Giddy Ups Spring Fling (03/14-18/2018)

Since 2009, Giddy Ups has been hosting the Spring Fling…5 days featuring 55 musical artists.  Songwriters, singers, and full bands come to introduce us to their music.

Last year, we were excited because we’d be retired this year and would be able to see all the performers.  Unfortunately, we didn’t count on the allergies!  If you live in Texas, you know what we mean.  If you live elsewhere, just imagine the most horrible cold you’ve ever had that lasts for weeks instead of days.  So, we didn’t get to see them all but, the ones we did see were all super special.

Below is the full lineup.  Be sure to click on the pages numbers at the bottom to go through each day.  To get more information on the artists, see A. Michael Uhlmann’s blog post with information on each artist, links to their website and Facebook pages, and where to find their music.  It’s a great resource!  Also, on the Spring Fling Music Festival Facebook page, there is a picture of every artist and a short write-up about them that was done during the festival. 28576792_10155943767636708_1591310309504538901_n
